Moroccan – Japanese Meeting: Towards a strengthened bilateral economic partnership
Mr. Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy has received on March 1st 2016, at the Ministry’s office in Rabat, a large delegation of Japanese businessmen, on a prospection visit to examine investment opportunities in Morocco.
The meeting explored the prospects for strengthening economic cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and Japan, both in terms of investments and bilateral trade, which have been very limited so far. Indeed, the trade volume in 2013 represents less than 1% of total external transactions of Morocco and Japanese investments in Morocco represent only 0.02% of total foreign direct investment.
Incidentally, Mr. Minister stressed the need for Morocco and Japan to mutually benefit from their economic potential in order to establish a fruitful and mutually beneficial bilateral partnership.
« Many of the competitive advantages of Morocco are in favour of the fulfilment of this ambition”, stressed Mr Minister, referring to the strategic position of Morocco as a hub for finances, technology, production and export towards various emerging markets, its ambitious sectorial strategies as well as the opportunities offered by the Industrial Acceleration Plan which aims to lay the foundations for a more competitive and better integrated industry.
Mr. Elalamy invited, on this occasion, Japanese investors to take part in the dynamics implemented under the Accelerated Industrial Plan, hence identifying trades which development is open to partnership with Japan.
