Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade

Mr. Omar Hejira, appointed on October 23, 2024, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, as Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, in charge of Foreign Trade, was born in 1967 in Oujda.

A graduate of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland, in 1993, Mr. Hejira is a Moroccan politician and Doctor of Pharmacy.

He served as Mayor of the city of Oujda for two terms, from 2009 to 2021, and has been elected as a parliamentarian for the constituency of the province of Oujda for four terms since 2007. In 2021, he became the First Vice-President of the Council of the Oriental Region.

In May 2024, he was elected President of the Istiqlal Group in the House of Representatives and Coordinator of the parliamentary groups of the majority political parties. He was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2010 to 2015 and has been a member of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union since 2021.

Mr. Omar Hejira is married and the father of two children.
