Mr. Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and the Digital Economy, presided on Monday 8 May 2017, in Bouznika, the inauguration of the new production plant of the German group Leoni, main European supplier of cabling and cable systems for the automotive sector.
On this occasion, the Minister stressed that the reopening of this site after production ceased in September 2013 due to social issues, showed the German group's confidence in Morocco and the current momentum of the automotive sector under the Industrial Acceleration Plan, notably symbolised by the arrival of new customers and expansion of the activities of established customers.
The project is part of an investment plan in Morocco, discussed and agreed with the group, and covering the development over the period 2017-2022 of a Leoni ecosystem in Morocco.
The total investment proposed by LEONI as part of its Moroccan development plan is 650 million dirhams, with the creation of more than 11,000 new direct jobs across all its Moroccan sites, including more than 3,000 jobs for the Bouznika factory alone, bringing the total staff employed by the group in Morocco eventually to more than 17,400.
The Minister emphasised that this plan will strengthen the wiring ecosystem in Morocco, while participating in the dynamics of regionalization in the Kingdom and achieving a balanced and integrated territorial development. It will also promote the expansion of the group's activities to other countries in Africa.
