Mr Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy, presided the stone laying of the "AGC Automotive Induver Morocco" automotive glass plant on 15 March 2017 in Kenitra.
The outcome of a joint venture between AGC AUTOMATIVE, world leader in automotive glazing, and INDUVER MOROCCO, this industrial unit will specialise in the production of tempered glass for rear and side windows as well as laminated glass for windscreens.
This partnership, which covers an investment of 183 million dirhams, will allow the production of 1,100,000 automotive glazing units per year, the creation of 625 highly qualified jobs and the generation of an export turnover of one billion dirhams. The plant is expected to be operational by 2019.
On this occasion, M. Elalamy welcomed the establishment of a world class leader in automotive glazing and stressed that the project is part of the deployment of the Renault Ecosystem, launched in April 2016 under the effective presidency of his Majesty King Mohamed VI, with the objective of federating a network of suppliers around the manufacturer to form an efficient ecosystem backing the development and further integration of the automotive value chain.
This project is set to enhance the performance and competitiveness of the Moroccan automotive sector, said the Minister. With the commissioning of the future AGC Automotive INDUVER Morocco plant, we will operate a true upmarket move, which will ensure a virtually complete offer for the glass industry, he added.
On his part, Jean-Marc Meunier, General Manager of AGC Automotive Europe said that "the dynamics the automotive sector is experiencing, strongly supported by the Industrial Acceleration Plan has been a determining factor in the decision to invest in Morocco and elect this country as home of the first operations of the AGC group in Africa”.
In fact, Morocco represents an additional competitive hub for the group. The project will allow capturing the demand in automotive glass from South of Europe and North Africa, while benefiting from a free zone to accommodate automotive industry companies.
On his part, Hakim Abdelmoumen, General Manager of Induver, welcomed the realisation of this important project which will enable Morocco to mass-produce the whole of automotive car-set (windscreen, rear and side windows) for the first time.
