The commerce and distribution sector is one of the pillars of the national economy: it is the second biggest employer of the nation after agriculture, in 2017 it accounted for more than 13% of the working population of the Morocco, or 1.56 million people.
In terms of the generation of wealth, the commerce and distribution sector is ranked as the third largest contributor to the country's GDP in 2017 with an added value established for that year to be close to MAD 84.2 billion.
